Meet Anita Lal, Windmill’s first staff member in British Columbia

June 1, 2022

Anita joined Windmill in February, becoming the organization’s first staff member on the ground in Metro Vancouver and greater British Columbia.

Anita’s efforts will build on nearly two years of groundwork in Metro Vancouver by Windmill.

Anita would be supporting partners like you with presentations and information sessions for staff and clients/students. During these information sessions, she can provide details to your staff about Windmill, our loan program, who we serve, and when to direct a client/student to our organization. She is also available for group presentations to clients/students to explain what we offer and who is eligible for our low-interest microloans.

Anita has been active in the non-profit and charity sector since 2013 and is passionate about creating healthy communities through effective programming and outreach. She’s involved in several community-based projects that are impactful, effective and foster change.

Before joining our team, she worked as Territory Manager at Canadian Blood Services, Business Development Manager at Royal Academy of Bhangra, Director for A-Town Presents and Executive Director at Vancouver International Bhangra Celebration (VIBC), which hosted the largest Bhangra festival in the world outside of Punjab India.

Also, she serves on the Advisory Board for the South Asian Studies Institute at The University of the Fraser Valley and the Board for Seva Thrift Society. Anita has a diverse set of business and networking skills that come from 12 years of high-level management in International Direct Marketing before switching to the non-profit sector.

“It’s a privilege to be working with an amazing organization that’s living their values by making a significant impact on the lives of immigrants and refugees,” says Anita. “It makes me very proud to be a part of this team and do the work we do.”
